TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Quality techniques have prevailed right from the time human beings produced goods. In the early days goods were produced by artisians. You had a potter making pots or the baker baking breads. As the industrial revolution took place, we slowly had units or factories which started mass production of goods. Along with industrial revolution came a new Quality technique called Statistical Quality Control which worked on the principle that if you checked a sample of the end products, you could say a certain degree of certainty that all goods produced in that lot were acceptable.
This is the buzzworld in the industry today. It is however important that you are aware of the concept TQM.
Simply stated, TQM implies application of Continuous Improvement principle at every level in every area of the organization, breaking it down to monitorable goals and ensuring that all actions are taken to achieve the set goals. It is based on the princiles of constancy of purpose, customer focus, continuous process improvement, team work and personal improvement.
